We’re really excited to kick off 2020 by announcing “She Lives Alone” a short film written and directed by Lucy Rose, has been funded by the BFI Network and officially begun pre-production.
The film is set in rural Cumbria, where Lucy grew up, and tells the story of Maud, a young woman trying to free herself from her oppressive and cruel mother, and take control of her life. Lucy’s story is inspired by the ghost stories and landscape of her childhood.
“I grew up in rural Cumbria and it was always the folklore and landscape that transported me to other worlds. Where there were shadows, I was certain I saw ghosts and where there were lone cottages, I was certain I saw witches. I’ve been obsessed with classic ghost stories for the longest time and I’m so happy to be working with Candle and Bell and Maria on this movie. I’m ready to make something spooky and haunting and bring this film and its characters to life. “
Lucy is one of the North East’s most exciting, upcoming filmmaking talents. Her film ‘Sycamore Gap” won her two RTS awards in the student categories and played at numerous festivals.
“I am really excited to be working on such a beautiful and complex film” said Maria Caruana Galizia, producer of “She Lives Alone”. “I’m a big fan of horror and I’ve been looking to produce a horror film for a few years now. I’ve seen how Lucy has progressed as a filmmaker since her time at university and feel very lucky to be working with such a talented and remarkable young filmmaker.”
Candle & Bell would like to thank the BFI Network for their support in financing this film. Look out for updates over the next few weeks and months!
