We spent last week filming “She Lives Alone” in Waskerely and Stanhope, County Durham. The film, written and directed by Lucy Rose, stared Rachel Teate in the role of Maud, Lauryn Elise in the role of Eleanor and Karen Littlejohn in the role of the Mother. “She Lives Alone” is the first horror film produced by Candle & Bell and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!
The film was funded by the BFI Network. It tells the story of Maud, a woman living in isolation who is haunted by an oppressive and cruel spirit.
The crew were all local to the North East and included rising star cinematographer Lizzie Gilholme, Northern School of Art graduates Poppy Hall as production designer and Maddy Williamson as costume designer. Patrycja Nowacka as make up designer, Josie Connor as 1st AD, a as well as long time collaborators Philip Quinton as sound recordist and Rob McDougal as gaffer.
When you’re making a low budget short film, you depend on the kindness of strangers and facilities houses. We were lucky to film in a beautiful home, owned by Anne Marie, who made us feel extremely welcome. We also owe a lot of gratitude to Canning 24 and all the hard working talented trainees from Northumbria University, the team at The Northern School of Art and Durham County Council.
