Lead producer at Candle & Bell, Maria Caruana Galizia, talks to Rebecca Hardy at High Life North Magazine about running a production company, her beginnings in Television and what she hopes to achieve in thee future

We’re pleased to announce that our comedy feature film MARWELL, written and directed by Benjamin Bee, has been granted a development award by the BFI Film Fund. The award will allow us to continue working on the script and begin to raise finance to make the film.
We were recently invited to attend the Venice Production Bridge, a market that takes place during the Venice Film Festival. We are currently raising finance for our feature film MARWELL - written and directed by Benjamin Bee - so the VPB was the perfect opportunity to meet with international sales and co-production partners, interested in investing in the film.
In August 2018 we got the good news that MARWELL a feature film Candle & Bell are developing had been selected for the prestigious Biennale College Cinema, in Venice. The team, consisting of writer/ director Benjamin Bee and producer Maria Caruana Galizia, travelled to participate in an intense 10 day workshop in Venice. MARWELL was one of twelve feature film projects selected to participate in the workshop.
We are absolutely delighted to announce that, following Metroland’s screening at the amazing Bafta recognised UnderWire Festival, that Roma Yagnik received a nomination for best composer and Rache Teate won the award for best actor.
Huge and deserved congratulations to the exceedingly talented Director of Photography Diana Olifirova as she is recognised by The British Society of Cinematographers for excellence as an emerging cinematographer for her work on Strange Cities are Familiar.
