Experiencing the BBC Comedy Festival in Glasgow: A Week of Inspiration, Connection, and Opportunity

This year, the BBC Comedy Festival in Glasgow proved to be an unforgettable experience, bringing together some of the brightest minds in the world of comedy. From engaging with industry legends to networking with fellow creatives, the festival was a hub of innovation, collaboration, and inspiration. For our team, it was an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the heart of the comedy world, gain valuable insights, and celebrate new talent.

One of the most exciting aspects of the BBC Comedy Festival was the opportunity to meet and connect with some of the biggest names in comedy production and we were lucky enough to connect with Jimmy Mulville and Angela Sindon of Hat Trick Productions. Another personal highlight was a special in conversation session with the legendary Jennifer Saunders. Known for her groundbreaking work on Absolutely Fabulous, French and Saunders, and many more, Saunders is a towering figure in comedy, and hearing her speak about her career was a true privilege.

The BBC Comedy Festival was also a fantastic opportunity to network with other creatives, producers, and industry professionals. From impromptu meetups in the coffee area to more structured networking events, the festival created an environment where ideas flowed freely, and connections were made. It was encouraging to see so many emerging voices in comedy, from writers to performers, sharing their work and exchanging ideas.

One particularly exciting moment was when our very own Zahra Zommorrodian, was selected for the prestigious Comedy Collective Scheme. This scheme is a platform for new comedic talent, providing them with opportunities to work with industry professionals and develop their skills further. Zahra’s selection is a testament to her hard work, creativity, and unique voice in comedy, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for her. It’s a huge step forward in her career, and we’re excited to see where this opportunity will take her.

Many thanks to the hard working comedy team at the BBC for putting together the festival. We’re already looking forward to next year, and hopefully we won’t accidentally leave Zahra behind in Edinburgh (that’s a story for another time)
