At Candle & Bell we’ve always offered opportunities to new filmmakers and students on our film productions. Over lockdown we realised that lots of new filmmakers were missing out on the opportunity to develop their craft and expand their knowledge. By creating Above The Line we want to share advice from experienced film professionals and give a new generation of filmmakers all the knowledge they need to make really good short films, and get a better understanding of how the industry functions without having to break the bank and move to London.

The first series of videos include a case study on A Six and Two Threes, a film produced by Candle & Bell, written and directed by Andy Berriman. There is also content above writer agreements and contracts, applying to film funds and creating casting calls.

Alongside more practical advice, the website gives subscribers access to exclusive interviews with some of the industry’s most well respected producers, including Scott Macaulay, producer of The Assistant, BAFTA-winner Emily Morgan, and Manon Ardisson, producer of indie hit God’s Own Country.

The website is updated on a monthly basis, as we seek to build one of the most comprehensive film courses on producing. Next year we’re looking forward to having masterclasses that focus on documentary, comedy and horror filmmaking.
