We were contacted by staff at Northumbria University who were putting on an event called 18th Century Legacies: The Past in our Present as part of the Being Human Festival, the UK's first national festival of the humanities.
The festival included a series of free film screenings, public talks, debates and workshops in venues across the city. Northumbria University asked Candle & Bell to produce a video that documented each event but also demonstrated the quality of research on display, student and staff involvement in hosting the events, and feedback from attendees.
Claudine van Hensbergen, lecturer at Northumbria University and organiser of the festival had this to say about working with Candle & Bell:
"We met with Candle & Bell on a number of occasions before filming began and at each meeting they brought ideas to the table and also showed how they had responded to our feedback. During the editing process we were shown a number of draft videos and able to give feedback at that crucial final stage. All in all, we were well consulted at every stage and felt confident about the product being created. The finished product was exactly what we were hoping for and exactly fit the brief we had given Candle & Bell. In addition, we were really pleased by our interactions with the film crew in general, who were prompt and very approachable and friendly."
